Music – Day for Night Fest 2016

Day for Night is returning for year two of music and art with events happening Friday, December 16 through Sunday, December 18. Below are some of the musicians I’m especially looking forward to, and you can click each picture to see a video. I made a playlist as well that’s included at the bottom. In addition to the musicians below we also have several homegrown acts that will be taking the stage, including Fat Tony, Kam Franklin (aka Kam of The Suffers), and Division. Single day passes are sold out, but you can still get weekend passes for the festival at www.dayfornight.io/. As always you can subscribe to my newsletter to get these posts directly in your inbox.

Kamasi Washington (Sunday)

If you looked at the liner notes for Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly you know his name. His triple-disc major label debut The Epic is just that.

Little Dragon (Sunday)

This Swedish band doesn’t come to Houston enough but they make phenomenal music. 2014’s Nabuma Rubberband has vocalist Yukimi Nagano at her best. Don’t miss this show.

Travis Scott (Sunday)

He’s from Houston (specifically Missouri City). His Radio album was a favorite of 2015 and this song will be a forever favorite. I’ve never seen him live so look for me in the audience.

Clams Casino (Saturday)

I follow his work because I love what he did with A$AP Rocky early on and he continues to put out strong production.

Soulection (Saturday)

This fairly new collective with the tagline “The Sound of Tomorrow” was founded in 2011 and puts out strong music from a wide range of musicians. They’re bringing Esta, Sosupersam, Andre Power, and Dpat (who happens to be local). I’ve been obsessed with this live set from Stro Elliot on the Soulection Live Sessions series.

This isn’t the full lineup at all and I’m sure there may be others who are interesting to you as well. This is just a sample of those whose music I’m especially excited about. Let me know in the comments if there are others I should be checking out. You can buy tickets here. See you this weekend!
