Slightly amended version of my I Don’t Do Clubs post. 1. LAWNDALE LIVE EPISODE 5 WITH ANNISE PARKER
Tuesday, December 6, 2016, 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
This weekly variety show housed at the Lawndale Art Center is a lot of fun with good music, interesting guests and funny skits. Make sure you sign up in advance and arrive by 6:50 p.m. to be seated. This week, former mayor Annise Parker will be interviewed on the show and DJ Flash Gordon Parks is providing the music. All episodes are recorded on Youtube. Learn more here.
2. START HOUSTON DEMO DAY
Wednesday, December 7, 2016, 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Each month local startups gather at Start Houston to pitch in front of a panel and huge audience. This event draws a wide range of attendees with various levels of engagement in the startup scene, and since it’s free with pizza and beer you have no reason not to attend. Get there early for pizza before the presentations start at 6:30 p.m. Learn more here.
3. ANDRA DAY WITH CHLOE X HALLE
Wednesday, December 7, 2016, 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Singer Andra Day has steadily been Rising Up since her 2015 BET Awards performance and 2016 Grammys. Openers Chloe x Halle are a group of two young women signed to Beyonce’s label. That should be all you need, but here’s their single Drop. Doors are at 7:00 p.m., and the show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $30 – $50. I’d recommend stopping by Tailored Wednesdays afterward. 4. UNSILENT NIGHT HOUSTON
Thursday, December 8, 2016, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Unsilent Night takes place during the month of December all over the world. Attendees use their phones and other audio devices to create a soundscape combining several different audio tracks while walking along Buffalo Bayou. 5. WAXAHOLICS PRESENT: RAH DIGGA X LYRIC JONES

Local DJ collective The Waxaholics are bringing Flipmode Squad rapper Rah Digga along with Lyric Jones. You may remember Digga from songs like Imperial taking you back to simpler days. They have a new single together, Ski Mask Way. Entry is free with RSVP. Learn more here.

7. RAIN: MAGDALENA FERNANDEZ AT THE HOUSTON CISTERN OPENING
Saturday, December 10, 2016, 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
This video installation promises to be beautiful with important historical value. Thursdays are free, but RSVP is still required. This enormous space which used to be an invaluable part of Houston’s water infrastructure now houses rotating exhibitions. Learn more here.

9. EDWARD L. BLACKSHEAR 100TH YEAR GALA, CELEBRATING THE LEGACY

Soul Control holds down Sundays at Alley Kat and plays an eclectic mix of music for those who aren’t into your everyday radio hits. Plus, they usually have free Breakfast Klub chicken before 6:00 p.m.! As a bonus, songstress Marium Echo continues her residency upstairs at 8:00 p.m. backed by her great band Analog Village.
