1. Kung Fu Movie Night at Jenni’s Post Oak

Every Tuesday you can eat your favorite noodle dish while watching a kung fu flick. The films range from Ip Man to Rush Hour. And it’s BYOB! $40 (for a nice dinner and adult beverage). More info.

2. Axe Throwing

You get training and practice throws along with games if you’re not scared to get a little competitive. $50. More info.

3. Second Saturdays at Sawyer Yards

Five warehouses have been turned into artist studios for the creation and display of paintings, jewelry, textiles, photography, sculptures, and mixed media. Artists open up their spaces for you to view their work while enjoying drinks and lite bites. $Free! More info.

4. Hike the Nature Trails at the Houston Arboretum

Go for a hike through the nature trails and read up on different animals in the area or take one of their Saturday morning bird walks! $Free! More info.

5. Whiskey Tasting at Reserve 101

Downtown whiskey bar Reserve 101 has regular tastings of whiskies ranging from Glenfiddich and Ardbeg to Dewars and Woodford Reserve. All proceeds from the tastings go to Rescued Pets Movement. $40. More info.

6. Night Light Vibe & Ride with Let’s Do This Houston

Let’s Do This Houston has frequent bike rides around Third Ward and downtown Houston at a very leisurely pace. The themed rides feature a wide range of music on rides from Future to Anita Baker. $50 includes your bike rentals for two! More info.

7. Comedy Show at The Secret Group

The Secret Group in East Downtown has tons of events throughout the week and most of them are very affordable shows like the weekly $2 bill show on Wednesday with free El Real Chips! If free is more your style, go for The Back of the Bus Comedy on Thursdays. More info.

8. Hang Out at Sideout VolleyBar

Sideout sits on the beautiful Little White Oak Bayou right across from White Oak Music Hall. They have a full bar, giant Jenga and chess, board games, and of course three volleyball courts that can be reserved! Free! Assemble your squad. More info.

9. University Museum at Texas Southern University

Led by legendary art historian Dr. Alvia Wardlaw, this museum in the middle of TSU showcases works by African and African American artists. Free! More info.

10. Take a Class at TXRX Labs

Local hackerspace TXRX hosts classes and workshops on pretty much everything hands-on. Interested in sewing, 3D printing, or building a drone? You probably weren’t before you read this post but you can learn! Class prices vary but you can always visit during the open houses on first and third Fridays for free. More info.
