A Raisin in the Sun at TSU

The classic play written by Lorraine Hansberry is up for its final weekend at Texas Southern. The story tells of a black family’s experiences in the Washington Park Subdivision of Chicago’s Woodlawn neighborhood as they attempt to “better” themselves with an insurance payout following the death of the father. $10. 9th Annual Indian Film Festival of Houston
Friday, October 6, 2017 – Saturday, October 7, 2017
A film festival showcasing documentaries, shorts, and feature films, along with Q&A sessions with directors and actors. It will kick off on October 6th with a cocktail reception, entertainment, and film screenings. $35 day passes, $15 for each individual screening. Learn more here.

Closing Reception — Trey Duvall: Moving Right Along
Friday, October 6, 2017, 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Located in the interior of a former convenience store, Moving Right Along is a site specific, kinetic installation by Trey Duvall. Randomized programing will trigger steel flails to create cumulative patterns of strike marks and impact while the pendulums run during the 15-day duration of the installation. Learn more here.

Friday, October 6, 2017, 8:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Vagabon, the moniker for multi-instrumentalist, Lætitia Tamko, was born in late 2014 during her final years of engineering school. Currently living in New York City via Cameroon, Tamko’s cultural duality and engineering background informs her inspirations as a musician and a producer. Blending elements of west and east African music from her childhood with punk as well as electronic leaning instrumentation, Vagabon songs vary in themes and genre. $12. Learn more here.

BLMHTX Harvey Relief Efforts – Serving Our People

This Saturday, in partnership with the Bread of Life, Inc., BLMHTX will be sending out teams to aid in the recovery efforts on the Northeast side of Houston. We need skilled folks that have experience removing sheetrock and flooring. We will also be deploying several teams to distribute supplies and canvass specific black and brown communities. Karbach Charity Pub Crawl

The crawl will begin at Lucky’s Pub 2pm, then head to the following establishments for live performances provided by the Houston Blues Society: Little Woodrow’s Ea Do, Neil’s Bahr, Chapman & Kirby, Truck Yard Houston, and King’s Court. At 7pm head back to Luckys Pub for a street festival and a special performance by local artists The Suffers!
