Ritual Culture every third Saturday at The Flat!

EMANCIPATION PARK JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION
Monday, June 19, 2017, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Emancipation Park is the oldest park site in the City of Houston. The parcel was purchased for $800 in 1872 by a group of Black community leaders  in celebration of Juneteenth (the anniversary of the emancipation of African Americans in Texas on June 19, 1865). Learn more here.

WALKING TOUR OF EMANCIPATION PARK INSTALLATIONS
Monday, June 19, 2017, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Artists Jamal Cyrus, Nathaniel Donnett, and Chanelle Nicole Frazier have embarked on a series of interventions along Emancipation Avenue. The works are intended to engage visitors and community residents in both historic and contemporary narratives of the Third Ward neighborhood. Tours will begin at Emancipation Park. Learn more here.

“Every month you send us stories, we pick the best ones, and assign them to a rotating crack-squad of expert story readers who show up the night of and wow our socks and/or pants off. A great line-up for the music heads. the music heads. Mndsgn grew up in south New Jersey, raised with Gospel music at church, and B-Boy culture at home. HMAAC + ARRAYNOW PRESENTS: THE HOUSE ON COCO ROAD

Continuing their relationship with Ava DuVernay’s film collective ARRAY Now, HMAAC presents The House on Coco Road, an intimate documentary exploration of heritage and history against the backdrop of a brewing Afro-centric revolution as the U.S. government prepares to invade the island nation of Grenada.
