I spent my entire weekend enjoying Houston’s art scene. I also may have stayed out until nearly 3am on Wednesday because Arlo’s. If you didn’t make it to Art League Houston or Project Row Houses you missed out. Fortunately a new week means more events in Houston, including my event on Saturday!

Tuesday

1. MAKER MEETUP WITH FGI HOUSTON AT MAGPIES AND PEACOCKS

The Maker Meetup is nomadic and changes venues and co-hosts each month, connecting and diversifying Houston’s vibrant creative community. This month Houston’s fashion industry professionals connect with sculptors, architects, graphic designers and other makers. 2. THE SHOUT: WHERE IS THE TRUTH

This event has spoken word, music, dance, and conversation.  Join up with a group of like-minded folks working to find their way and celebrate in the midst of the journey. This month, The Shout artists set out to answer the question: “Where Is The Truth?” Learn more here.

3. THE RUSH AT HOB FEATURING ALYCIA MILES & MICHELE THIBEAUX

4. TAILORED WEDNESDAYS: TRIBE VS. THE ROOTS

I hear the free crawfish is pretty good and it’s one of the best DJs in Houston with a theme of A Tribe Called Quest vs. The Roots to go along with the usual neo soul and hip hop that gets played. Learn more here.

5. HMAAC FILM SERIES: ARRAY FILM’S NAMOUR

Thursday, March 30, 2017, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Join HMAAC for the continuation of our partnership with Ava Duvernay’s ARRAY Films as they present Namour. ARRAY is a community-based distribution collective founded by the Selma director and dedicated to the amplification of films by people of color and women filmmakers. This film, written and directed by a black woman, is about a Los Angeles valet whose life unravels during a post-college rut. Learn more here.

6. AN ACT OF JUSTICE: UNDOING THE LEGACY OF MASS INCARCERATION

Thursday, March 30, 2017 – Saturday, April 1, 2017

Explore the human rights issues associated with the criminal justice system in the United States. The symposium will offer workshops, panels and keynote addresses featuring academics, activists, religious leaders, artists, criminal justice reform experts, and formerly incarcerated individuals and their families. 7. RELATIONSHIT LIVE WITH KAM FRANKLIN

8. HOUSTON WHATEVER FEST

15. THE TRUTH PROJECT PRESENTS RISE ABOVE: A STORY OF HOPE

In this free performance nonprofit The T.R.U.T.H. Project explores the subject matter of abuse. An often unspoken reality will be explored through a multidisciplinary social art experience that will not only address abuse but will also be instrumental in rising above adversities. 16. ARTASTING: AN ART AND WINE TASTING EVENT

17. NEXT LEVEL HTX – ERIC ROBERSON

This monthly concert series welcomes Grammy nominated singer/songwriter Eric “Erro” Roberson back to Houston along with Cheryl Pepsii Riley. Howard alumnus Erro always puts on a great show and the event includes a long list of accompanying performers including Brik Liam, Kai Hicks, David Michael Wyatt, and Mireya. Learn more here.
