Here’s an expanded post based on this week’s I Don’t Do Clubs listicle. Last week was busy for me as I volunteered for the Black Girls Code Houston launch, attended Writefest, enjoyed several artists at Creative Women Unite, and checked out the new black-owned Ogun Art + Wine shop in the heights.

1. MAYOR SYLVESTER TURNER PRESENTS “A RAISIN IN THE SUN”
Monday, March 13, 2017, 7:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
Join Mayor Sylvester Turner as he introduces the award-winning drama A Raisin in the Sun, his selection for the MFAH’s ongoing Movies Houstonians Love series. This film adaptation of Lorraine Hansberry’s socially conscious play features powerful performances by the original Broadway cast: Sidney Poitier, Ruby Dee, Claudia McNeil, Diana Sands, Ivan Dixon, Louis Gossett Jr. and John Fiedler. 2. MOVIE NIGHT: AMELIE W REAL ALE BREWING CO.

Axelrad will have the owner of Real Ale here at this movie night with his brand new Pinsetter Amber Lager beer along with plenty of others to choose from. Fortunately, if you decide to make this a romantic date night with the classic French film Amelie, Axelrad Beer Garden has a full bar to cater to everyone. 3. BINGO NIGHT AT THE SECRET GROUP

4. BOONDOCK SAINTS – SAINT PATTY’S DAY TV DINNER NIGHT

To show holiday spirit, Lowbrow is holding another one of their TV Dinner Nights with a classic action film paired with beer and food. 6. STRAIGHT NO CHASER – SADE APPRECIATION NIGHT

8. HMAAC FILM SERIES – CHISHOLM ’72: UNBOSSED AND UNBOUGHT
Thursday, March 16, 2017, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
This is the first historical documentary on Brooklyn Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm and her campaign to become the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee in 1972. The story follows Chisholm, the first black Congresswoman, from the announcement of her candidacy for president to the Democratic National Convention in Miami, Florida. Learn more here.

9. CRAFTIVISM HOUSTON MARCH POSTCARD PARTY
Thursday, March 16, 2017, 7:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
Craftivism Houston is a monthly meetup in which attendees create useful, political items together as a group. Bring your own project to work on or join them in writing, creating, decorating and sending political postcards to representatives! 10. THURSDAY NIGHT DRAWING SESSION

13. 4TH ANNUAL CELEBR8ION OF BEER

8th Wonder is turning 4, and we’re throwing it down as we do. Rain or shine! Tickets will include beer and will grant you admission to the festivities which will include live music, food trucks, and more. 14. THE BLACK & WHITE ART SHOW 2.0

15. ELECTRO BOUNCE

Calling all people who love to get down on the dance floor: Electro Bounce fuses a multitude of genres with the sole purpose of making your booty move. 18. EAT IT RAW VEGAN “COOKING” CLASS WITH FULLY RAW KRISTINA
