Saturday, October 8
Houston AfriFest at Houston Baptist University at 11am. Plenty of food, music, clothing, and fun at this annual event. I’ll be there registering people to vote! Documentary: Get in the Way: The Journey of John Lewis at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston at 1pm. This free screening tells the story of activist and congressman John Lewis including a panel with the director. Houston rapper FlygerWoods is having an Album Premiere Party at Alley Kat at 9pm with Fat Tony as DJ support.
Sunday, October 9
Thrills: October Writing Workshop Series at East End Studio Gallery at 2pm. Free but donations are welcome for this workshop where people will learn about writing creative nonfiction and poetry. Wine-Versations: Presidential Debate Viewing Party and dinner at The Springbok at 6pm. Tickets are $40 for this event where participants will sample various South African wines and hors d’oeuvres before watching the presidential debate. 2nd Presidential Debate Watch Party at Axelrad at 8pm. This is if you want a more relaxed space to watch the debate while having drinks that I’m sure will be helpful. You can also register to vote!
Monday, October 10

Tuesday, October 11
2nd Tuesdays w/ the Greater Houston Black Chamber – Business Luncheon at the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum at 11:30am. This month they’ll have Theldon Branch, Port of Houston Commissioner, and tickets are $15 for members. Socially Responsible Companies Panel at Rice University at 6pm. This panel will have several companies represented that are seeking to make a social impact while also making a profit. A reception follows the panel. Tastes of Houston: Discovery Discussions at Discovery Green at 7pm. This installment in the free series will feature several big names in the Houston food scene talking about Houston food culture.
Wednesday, October 12
Strategic Partners Dismantling the School-to-Prison Pipeline at Barry’s Pizza at 5:30pm. Have some pizza and wine while meeting HC Sheriff candidate Ed Gonzalez and school board candidate Anne Sung. Los Angeles rapper Busdriver at The Nightingale Room at 7pm. He’ll be joined by Metasota and Orlando Kennedy and tickets are $10. I like this song with Anderson .Paak. Tailored Wednesdays with video DJ Sly Foxx is continuing at Leon’s Lounge kicking off at 8pm. I walked in to see Teyana Taylor dancing to Fade on the screens followed by The Internet so I’m sold.

Thursday, October 13
Singers Nikki Hill and Annika Chambers at Discovery Green at 7pm. This is the last Thursday concert of the series and features two R&B singers on the outdoor stage.
